BMW originally introduced E Ink technology at the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show where the iX Flow electric SUV was able to change its exterior finish from black to white and everything in between. For this year’s CES in Las Vegas, the i Vision Dee concept took the tech to the next level by featuring up to 32 true colors, not just nuances of black and white.

The Kindle Scribe Is No Match for Onyx’s Massive New eReader
Review Geek
By Andrew Heinzman
January 22, 2023
Before Amazon launched the Kindle Scribe, people who wanted to use a stylus-equipped eReader had to shop from lesser-known brands like Onyx. But it seems that Onyx is giving people a reason to skip the Kindle … I should also note that the BOOX Tab X uses a 6300mAh battery. That’s a fairly large battery for any tablet, especially for a device with a power-efficient E Ink display. Unfortunately, Onyx hasn’t shared battery life details for this product.
E Ink Monitor: Does It Save You From Blue light Burnout?

Hi, my name’s Andrew, and for the past three months I’ve been working on an e ink monitor called the Boox Mira Pro. I feel more calm and creative, plus my eyestrain is completely gone, but…I’m conflicted. Because the Mira also has some limitations that make me question whether it’s practical for everyday use. Last summer I ditched my iPhone for an e ink phone called the Light Phone 2, and it was so relaxing that it actually created a problem.Because it made me realize how stressed and burned out I felt working on my iMac.

American adults spend the majority of their waking hours looking at screens—and yet most of those screens, including the one you’re probably reading this on now, are based on the same LCD display tech that made its debut in the 1980s … E Ink, a Boston-based company owned by a Taiwanese parent company also named E Ink, has been competing with existing display technology ever since Sony introduced the first black-and-white e-reader using E Ink in 2004.
The Best Writing Tablets for Making Lists and Taking Notes

If you’re anything like us, you’ve spent hours on end sitting on the floor of a Staples or Office Max trying to choose between an uninspired selection of notebooks for one that’ll fix all your disorganization problems. Spoiler alert: A new notebook won't make you meet your deadlines—but a writing tablet just might. Remove the stress of picking out a new notebook every few months with a dedicated writing tablet fit with tools to help you organize, get creative, or take notes on documents. Typically made with E Ink screens for the most paper-like feel, good writing tablets typically have features like glare resistance, palm rejection, built-in calendars, cloud syncing, and ideally, a marketplace for extra apps.

American multinational giant, Amazon has been making tech, from tablets, TVs, and streaming devices to earbuds etc, but one of their most successful products has always been e-readers … While e-ink displays have come a long way they still have their limits as they are mostly in black and white and are still slower to refresh than an OLED but they are much easier on the eyes and the battery.

The Lenovo Smart Paper Does the One Thing I Wish My Kindle Scribe Could Do
TechRadar

I was pleasantly surprised by the Lenovo Smart Paper at CES 2023 in Las Vegas. Writing tablets with E Ink screens, like our favorite Onyx Boox Note Air 2, are hot right now and I’ve been waiting for the one E Ink tablet that hits all my bases before I call the category a home run. The Lenovo comes close to a win, but it still proves that no writing tablet gets everything right.

TCL NXTPAPER 10s Tablet: Easy on the Eyes
Gadget Guy

With a paper-like colour display, the TCL NXTPAPER 10s tablet is designed to reduce eye strain and improve both the reading and writing experience on a tablet. Tablets like Apple’s iPad and the Samsung Galaxy Tab aim to be jack-of-all-trades devices, but a vivid backlit screen isn’t always best suited to the task at hand. That’s why the etch-a-sketch style e-Ink displays, found on e-book readers like the Kobo and Amazon’s Kindle, are still popular with avid readers looking to avoid eye strain.

The best Android tablets today enable users to perform a wide range of tasks, including and not limited to reading e-books. While it's natural to assume that these tablets would have ceased to exist with the emergence of powerful tablets with sharper displays, manufacturers like Boox, Kobo, and of course, Amazon have proven that notion wrong. Brands have routinely launched products for a market that continues to seek out devices specifically for the purpose of reading and taking notes. We've reviewed a handful of Onyx Boox ePaper readers in the past, such as the Nova Air C, which features on our list of the best e-readers you can buy today. The manufacturer has now added yet another Android-based color ePaper reader to its portfolio in the form of the Boox Tab X.

Stars Are Disappearing From the Night Sky Much Faster Than We Thought
Cosmos Magazine
By Jacinta Bowler
January 23, 2023
An international citizen science project has discovered that people around the world are seeing fewer and fewer stars in the night sky. The change in star visibility can be explained by an increase in the sky brightness of 7-10% per year. “The rate at which stars are becoming invisible to people in urban environments is dramatic,” says GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences, Dr Christopher Kyba … Another factor the authors cite is the widespread switch from orange sodium vapor lamps to white LEDs, which emit much more blue light.
