01 ZeroWriter: A DIY Electronic Typewriter
ZeroWriter is an open-source DIY tool that allows users to assemble an ePaper typewriter similar to the Freewrite Traveler using components costing less than $200. To assemble this device, a 3D-printed case, a 4.2-inch ePaper display, Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W, microSD card, and an external battery pack are required. Users can also choose different keyboard and case designs based on their needs. Currently, the necessary 3D design files and software for ZeroWriter have been made open-source.
02 Make a Multi-purpose Dice with an ePaper Display
Sasa Karanović has created a tool using an ePaper display that can simulate different types of dice in board games, such as 6-sided, 12-sided, and 20-sided dice. Each press of this device is equivalent to rolling a dice and displays a random result on the ePaper. For board game players, having such a tool means they no longer need to carry a whole set of dice. Sasa Karanović's tool is battery-powered, controlled by a low-power microcontroller, and integrates the ePaper and frame as buttons to provide a physical pressing experience.
