01 Poem/1: An AI ePaper Clock That Displays Time in the Form of Poetry

Poem/1 is a unique ePaper clock currently crowdfunding. It is capable of using ChatGPT to generate and display poetry in real-time, incorporating time into the updated poem every minute, bringing a touch of poetry and fun to the user's daily life.

Poem/1's shell is 3D printed and features an ePaper display with a resolution of 960x540. Backers can pledge £119 to receive a Poem/1 clock and five years of OpenAI fees for generating poetry. The product is expected to start shipping in August 2024.

02 Radwear: An ePaper Smart Watch That Measures Radiation Levels

Radwear ePaper watch is more like a portable Geiger counter with an ePaper and watch functions. The manufacturer claims that this device allows wearers to constantly monitor the radiation levels in their surroundings, reducing the potnetial risk of exposure to excessive radiation.

Apart from displaying time and measuring radiation levels, this product has no other functions or sensors, and does not support NFC or Wi-Fi. During testing, placing the watch near electronic devices resulted in higher radiation readings. However, the watch's measurement and display of radiation levels are not as timely as industrial-level Geiger counters.

03 A Modified ePaper Digital Printer

Based on the open-source DIY project zerowriter for ePaper digital printers, Ryan Whalen upgraded a new version of ePaper digital printer. This product aims to provide an alternative solution to the Freewrite and Freewrite Traveler digital printers. The required hardware for this project includes a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W single-board computer, a 4.2-inch E Ink display, a Pisugar 3 battery and power supply, and a Keychron K6 Pro mechanical keyboard, with a total cost of around $200.

Building on the zerowriter project, Ryan Whalen used a streamlined 3D printed shell and custom software. The custom software, named TypeWryter, is written in Python and minimizes full-screen refreshes through a prioritized typing interface.
