E Ink has now officially published the specifications of the E Ink Carta 1300, which does not offer a color display, but should be able to display documents particularly comfortably as usual. The display of grayscale is possible.

Attentive readers may already be familiar with the manufacturer E Ink and the E Ink Carta 1300 panel. In fact, various manufacturers have already announced products based on the new E Ink panel, and now the manufacturer of the panel itself has also commented on the new product. Accordingly, a product page is available on which interested parties can find out more about the new panel. However, the E Ink Carta 1300 display is unlikely to be revolutionary.

Basically, it is an E Ink display without the ability to display colors, but it can display 16 shades of grey. The resolution of the panel is specified as 1,264 x 1,680. As the screen measures 7 inches diagonally, this results in a pixel density of 300 PPI. The active area, i.e., the area available for displaying image content, is specified as 149.96 x 106.808 millimeters. The module itself is naturally larger due to the edges and the hardware and measures 151.6 x 124.3 millimeters with a thickness of 1.87 millimeters.

According to E Ink, the weight is around 62 grams. The size and weight of e-readers with the panel will depend on the housing material, battery capacity and other features. For example, there are already major differences between current e-readers in terms of the presence of a camera, microphone or speakers. The new panel is said to offer relatively fast refreshing of image content, but only tests will be able to provide more precise figures. The lighting can be adjusted not only in terms of intensity, but also color temperature.
