When I first started at MobileSyrup, one of the first stories I ever wrote was a little recap about the launch of the Light Phone 2. At that time, the company was only selling the phone through Indiegogo, but now many years later, the Light Phone is getting true Canadian carrier support with Telus.
Starting July 17, you can buy a Light Phone series on the company’s website. The Light Phone 2 will cost $299, and the newer Light Phone 3 will cost $699. The newer phone also features a camera and NFC, making it much more expensive than the Light Phone 2.
After you buy a phone, you can get one of three data plans from Telus:
10GB of data, unlimited texting, 10k minutes for calling – $40
40GB, unlimited texting and 10k minutes for calling – $45
60GB, unlimited texting and 10k minutes for calling, free U.S. calling – $50
The Light Phone is designed to be a minimalist phone that reduces the distractions of a modern mobile device. The Light Phone 2 is minimal and has an E-ink screen, so it’s best to restrict phone use. The newer phone version is quite similar in design, but it’s a little larger and has a more responsive screen alongside its camera features.
Update 16/07/2025 2:05 pm ET: Telus has updated the pricing of the plans for the Light Phone. Previously the cheapest plan was $35, but it’s now been raised to $40.
