The Modos Flow, announced several months ago, is now available for pre-order on Crowd Supply. The black-and-white panel model is priced at $699. According to the manufacturer's pricing, the color display version is priced at $799. Shipping is free within the United States, with global shipping at $18.

Orders are expected to ship in mid-December. This pricing makes the portable monitor relatively expensive — for comparison, an ASUS ZenScreen with an OLED display sells for around $229 on Amazon. However, the Modos Flow reportedly offers a more comfortable reading experience thanks to its E Ink display, particularly under bright light. Like e-readers, the Modos Flow uses a reflective display rather than backlighting, meaning the brighter the ambient light, the better the readability.

The color display model also features front-light illumination for nighttime use. Depending on the model, Modos uses E Ink Carta 1300 or Kaleido 3 panels, both with a resolution of 3,200 x 2,400 pixels and a pixel density of 300 PPI. Modos claims a 60 Hz refresh rate with latency below 100 milliseconds — fast for an E Ink panel, though pixel response time is generally insufficient for gaming or smooth video playback.

Additionally, the full 60 Hz refresh rate is only achievable when connected to external power; when connected via a single cable, the maximum refresh rate is 40 Hz. The monitor connects to laptops via a USB-C cable that also provides power. The display supports touch input, but stylus support is only available on the higher-end color screen version.
