Oh boy, where to start? This is a loaded conversation full of many different angles, so let me start from the beginning. iReader Smart Air – the Perfect Note Taking Device? A Review

Good eReader

By Sovan Mandal

December 21, 2022

The iReader Smart Air can be mistaken as just one among the scores of others of its ilk currently dotting the tech landscape. It has got the same disproportionate design where the left bezel is thicker compared to the other three. It comes bundled with a stylus and packs in all the hardware bits to allow for smooth performance that does not break any new grounds but is par for the course. The E Ink display is excellent and refreshes really fast.]

The Year in Review – Favorite Gadgets of the Gadgeteer Team for 2022 (part 2)

The Gadgeteer

By Julie Strietelmeier

December 21, 2022

Here we go with part two of the Gadgeteer team’s favorite gadgets of 2022. So far vacuums and chargers seem to be winning the favorite product category but we’ll have to see how it plays out after the rest of the series posts… I take a lot of notes, mainly for my job, and I prefer to write them instead of typing them. I tend to retain information better that way. I got really tired of keeping several different notebooks going and trying to remember where I wrote what. So, I began looking into e-ink note tablets. So far, I’ve kicked the tires of three different ones and my favorite so far is the reMarkable 2 e ink tablet.

December 19, 2022

Amid growing interest in self-custody solutions, Bitcoin-centric startup Foundation Devices announced today that it has closed a $7 million seed funding round. The Boston-based company said that it will use the cash to continue developing its crypto “digital sovereignty” products, which include both hardware and software wallets… Original Apple iPod designer and engineer Tony Fadell recently partnered with popular crypto wallet company Ledger to release a new wallet called Stax, which has an E Ink display and credit card-like footprint. Jack Dorsey’s Block (formerly Square) is also building a hardware wallet, alongside other Bitcoin-centric initiatives.

Stacey on IoT

By Stacey Higginbotham

December 19, 2022

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) has a new focus on IoT, specifically on bringing connected Bluetooth shelf labels and tags to retail and other settings... As Cesar Johnston, CEO of Energous, explained to me, the transmitters are placed around a building like wireless access points, and can provide power to hundreds of tags. In addition to Energous providing location and state information, it’s also interested in providing real-time pricing. And through partnerships with e-ink screen makers, that too is coming to fruition. Stores are already testing ways to update prices as much as 10 times a day.

AV 101: Digital Signage for the Industry Newbie

rAVe Pubs

By Murphy Daily

December 20, 2022

In the fall of 2020, as I waited in the single line at my California grocery store (making sure to keep the federally recommended 6 feet of distance), a display on a makeshift stand showed a single number indicating which checker was available to help me. The line was long. As I waited, I had time to wonder about the state of digital signage technology. There is so much more to get out of this technology than what I was seeing in this grocery store. I was seeing in real-time many businesses having to embrace digital signage in a way they hadn’t before.
