Quadrant Lab, in collaboration with the ePaper Industry Alliance (EPIA) has launched the Quadrant.ePaper weekly bulletin, aiming to provide readers with insights on global industry innovations and the latest news on the ePaper industry and connecting the global IoT ecosystem.
01 Minimal Phone Will Start Crowdfunding in February
Minimal Company showcases the Minimal Phone on its website, which features a square ePaper display and a physical full keyboard similar to a BlackBerry phone. This phone supports touchscreen operation, is equipped with a 4000mAh battery for up to 4 days of battery life, and runs on the customized Android-based operating system called MnmlOS. It is optimized for a low-power, high-contrast, and low-refresh-rate black and white E Ink display.
The founder of the company stated that the Minimal Phone, to be priced at $400, will support RCS messaging and YouTube Music, as well as the ability to download some APPs from the Play Store. Prior to the Minimal Phone, the minimalist phone Light Phone 2, which also uses an ePaper display, received positive reviews and attention after its release, becoming a noteworthy "alternative" in the mobile phone category.
02 DynaScan Showcases its Color ePaper Digital Outdoor Solution at ISE 2024
Innovative display solution provider DynaScan announced that it will showcase its latest sustainable digital out-of-home (DOOH) solution using color ePaper technology at ISE 2024 event held in Barcelona. The solution utilizes E Ink Kaleido 3 color ePaper technology and is available in three sizes: 13.3 inches, 25.3 inches, and 42 inches. It offers excellent visibility in sunlight and consumes less power, allowing it to operate within a temperature range of -15 to 65℃, making it suitable for challenging environments such as storefronts and outdoor settings.
Alan Kaufman, President of DynaScan, stated that they will also collaborate with E Ink to launch larger sizes and exceed user expectations in the future. Currently, DynaScan offers innovative display solutions for indoor, outdoor, and storefront applications ranging in size from 32 inches to 86 inches.
03 SEEKINK Showcases its Disruptive ePaper Solution at ISE 2024
At the Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2024 event to be held from January 30 to February 2, SEEKINK will showcase its disruptive ePaper solutions for digital signage, retail, transportation, healthcare, smart cities, and other scenarios. This includes the S253 ePaper digital signage and S133 outdoor ePaper bus stop signage.
The S253 ePaper digital signage integrates high-performance ePaper displays that can present vivid and dynamic advertising content. It also features intelligent advertising functions, allowing businesses to engage in more targeted communication. The S133 outdoor ePaper bus stop signage, with a 13.3-inch screen, is designed for outdoor deployment with an IP65 protection rating, ensuring reliable operation in various weather conditions.
04 An MP3 Player with eBook Function
FAMUE is a product launched in 2023 that combines the functions of a mini eBook and a HIFI music player. Produced by the Chinese company FAMUE, established in 2014, it is a cutting-edge consumer electronics brand that integrates research and development, design, production, and sales.
In terms of hardware, this product is equipped with a 3.52-inch E Ink Carta ePaper display with a resolution of 240×360 pixels. It supports only black and white display and is without front light. In terms of software, it supports music formats such as MP3/FLAC/AAC/WAV/APE/WMA, as well as features like recording, stopwatch, calculator, and dictionary. However, a drawback is that this product only supports reading TXT files.
