M5Stack has launched the M5Paper Color ESP32S3 development kit — a compact display module and development board rolled into one. It features a 4-inch E Ink Spectra™ color ePaper display with a resolution of 400 × 600 pixels, capable of displaying multiple colors on a screen smaller than most eReaders.
Built on an ePaper platform with built-in Wi-Fi connectivity, the device is well-suited for DIY smart home dashboards and IoT display applications. The M5Paper Color also includes an onboard microphone.
As with all ePaper technology, the display draws very little power and remains easily readable under bright ambient light without requiring a strong backlight — but it is not particularly responsive to rapid content changes. This makes the display ideal for showing information that does not need to update within milliseconds.
