The E Ink Kaleido 3 technology is being given an oversized overhaul to make it suited for use in a range of outdoor displays as a low-power solution for companies to opt for in place of conventional display technologies.

E Ink isn’t suitable for video, however, and for that, Mor said that Wi-Charge already has an ‘Aircord’ powered LCD display in the market called Wi-Spot. Available in either 7- and 9in sizes, Mor said this was aimed primarily at product adjacent advertising for the retail market.

The 75” E Ink Kaleido 3 Outdoor display offers print-color ePaper designed specifically for Digital Out-of-Home (DOOH) advertising signage market, and it is suitable for outdoor use in varying temperature ranges. It offers dynamic color display capabilities, poster-like visual quality, and a low-carbon and eco-friendly display solution.

Agile Display Solutions showcased what it says is the “world’s first self-powered full-colour digital signage solution, designed for use in retail environments” at ISE 2025.

There are paper-like screens that try to deliver a more eye-friendly experience, but until recently, those have been limited to very expensive monochrome E Ink screens. Electronic paper or e-paper displays now do support colors, but they’re still far too few to be usable by most people, especially those that do rely on a bit of color accuracy or at least realism. This peculiar monitor, however, promises the best of both worlds, though what it offers might come at a price, literally.

There are numerous companies big and smallish showing color e-paper displays at ISE this week – everything from previously seen variations of E Ink’s Spectra 6 to DOOH street furniture-sized 75-inchers that use E Ink’s Kaleido 3, which has quite limited color support and a filter that doesn’t allow anywhere near the saturation of Spectra 6.
