IC design leader MediaTek and ePaper maker E Ink announced on May 26 that they are deepening their partnership by integrating MediaTek's world-first system-on-chip purpose-built for generative AI e-readers with built-in hardware TCON, simultaneously supporting the latest color ePaper platforms E Ink Gallery™ and E Ink Kaleido™, jointly targeting the color-content-driven e-book reader and education markets.
Adam King, General Manager of MediaTek's Personal Device Business Unit, said that MediaTek and E Ink have been partnering since the first-generation product to enter the global e-book reader market together, successfully winning favor from leading global e-book manufacturers. Facing the paradigm shift brought by generative AI, the two companies are combining MediaTek's edge AI computing power with E Ink's full-color ePaper display technology — not only delivering an ultimate visual experience for ePaper, but also progressively evolving digital readers into e-notebooks with smooth handwriting support and intelligent terminal devices capable of offline real-time voice recording and translation.
E Ink Executive Vice President of Business Center Hong Jih-mao noted that building on the long-term partnership with MediaTek, the company continues to optimize the ePaper display experience. Through the new-generation SoC combined with the latest color ePaper technology, it achieves faster refresh performance and more refined color presentation, while also opening up more diverse application possibilities for ePaper in education and reading markets, offering a user experience that combines eye protection with digital interactivity.
